The Rossan (meaning 'little wood' in gaelic) was built in 1851 as a Freekirk Manse (house for the minister) - the church sold it in 1930, and we bought it in 1980.
There are 3 bedrooms and 2 shared bathrooms. We can take a maximum of 6 persons, including children.
There is a lovely mature garden, trees & shrubs, which has become a miniature wild-life sanctuary in spite of the neighbours cats! 2 kinds of owl nest in the trees and we have 18 varieties of smaller birds.
The village, pub, garage and post office is 5 minutes walk. The surrounding countryside provides endless walks, cliff shore, fields. forests & hills. There are many local golf courses, ruined abbeys & castles.
Castle Douglas is a good shopping centre & nearby Kirkcudbright is famous as an "artists toon" with lovely old buildings, a small harbour, 3 art galleries and a museum.
